Lesson One, 2011, installation image

Night of the opening reception seen through the ten foot vail of block prints installed for, Lesson One

This installation was created for Tangent Galleries FAUNA group show, in the spring of 2011. Coinciding with my current interest in Printmaking, reading the worlds mythology & folklore, as well as the symbolic usage of animals in these myths, I sought to create a work of art which would allow the experiencer to read themselves back into the mythological fabric of the world, while subtly fusing the intuitive teaching ability animals once had and the artist does have  in our  contemporary culture . In effort not to “narrow the scope of art”, while maintaining a level of accessibility to the needs of  every experiencer of this work, a decision to use culturally familiar materials, such as prints, drawings, paper, string, ink, glue, and watercolor was essential element to teaching.   The helpful title “Lesson One” creates a humble context for everyone to join in a dialog crafted for intuitive inflection, or simply to facilitate undulations of imagination easily applied to the enrichment of ones own life….

Thank you Emily Weiss, for generously sharing your time & talents to photograph this work.

Thank you to Tangent Galleries, Gioia & Ianna for the opportunity to join this show and their essential support in the evolution of this work of art.
